Locharwoods of Birkdale is a converted family house situated in a quiet residential area of Birkdale. We have 19 ensuite rooms, with additional communal lounge, conservatory and dining room.
‘Locharwoods’ is centrally heating and insulated and complies with the latest Fire and Building Regulations; the house is equipped with an Attendant Call System operational from all bedrooms, toilets, bathrooms.
We have a spacious dining room, and a spacious lounge which gives access to the conservatory and garden. There is a sunny patio and other paved and lawned sitting areas.
‘Locharwoods’ has nineteen fully equipped rooms; all with en-suite facilities. Rooms have mains television aerials and some rooms have telephone points. There is a slow-moving hydraulic lift installed for Residents who do not wish (or are unable) to climb the stairs.
Our aim at Locharwoods is to provide safe and homely accommodation supported by the Residents’ own General Practitioner and the Team of District Nurses in Southport. We encourage an independent life-style hoping that Residents will enjoy a new lease of life, safe in the knowledge that attention is available twenty-four hours a day if required

About the Home
Locharwoods of Birkdale Residential Care Home is a large older style property once owned by the Glasgow Family sited in Birkdale near Southport, within easy reach of Birkdale Village. The home sits back from the road with a large pretty front garden and ample parking for vehicles, to the rear you will find a larger garden stocked with a variety of trees and plants with a large patio area.
The home itself comprises of 19 centrally heated en-suite bedrooms, communal lounge, conservatory, dining room, kitchen, laundry room, toilet facilities throughout and storage areas. An extension to the rear of the property provides further individual en-suite rooms.
There is a nurse call system in operation within the home; the passenger lift allows access to the first floor extension, balcony and the second floor.
There are a variety of activities if you wish to join in – it’s up to you- there are also trips to Southport during the summer months. The activities notice board is situated in the main hallway.
About the area
Birkdale village provides a variety of shops, banks, a post office, a public house, small friendly cafés and restaurants. There is an excellent transport service enabling travel to Southport or Liverpool via the bus service or train.
The St. James C of E church is a ten minute walk along Saxon Road then into Lulworth Road. St. Josephs Roman Catholic church is situated opposite the home on the corner of Saxon and York Road.
